40 Years of SCM Germany: Anniversary Open House in Nürtingen
Forty years ago, SCM established its German subsidiary, laying the foundation for a development that has transformed the Nürtingen site into one of the Group's most important competence centers outside Italy. To celebrate this milestone, SCM Germany will host an Anniversary Open House at its Technology Center on September 23 and 24. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience modern woodworking technologies in operation and discuss solutions tailored to their individual production requirements with SCM experts.
SCM's history in the German market began much earlier. As early as the 1960s, the Group was represented in Germany through local distribution partners. Within just a few years, Germany became one of SCM's most important European markets and, for a long period, its largest export market outside the United States. With its continuous presence at LIGNA since the very first edition in 1975, SCM underlined the strategic importance of the German market and steadily expanded its activities.
The establishment of SCM-D Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen GmbH in 1986 marked a significant step in strengthening the Group's direct presence in Germany. Sales, technical service, spare parts support and training were brought together within a dedicated local organization for the first time. At the same time, Novorex GmbH operated as a specialist supplier of CNC machining centres.
The later integration of Novorex, followed by the consolidation of all sales, service and support activities in Nürtingen, represented further milestones in the development of a central organization serving the entire DACH region.
Throughout every stage of its development, SCM pursued the same objective: bringing the company closer to its customers by combining sales, application engineering, service and spare parts support under one roof. A major milestone was the opening of the new headquarters in 2003, bringing together sales, showroom, spare parts warehouse and technical service at a single location. The comprehensive expansion and modernization of the Technology Center in 2023 marked the next step in this evolution. The exhibition area increased by around 60 percent to 1,200 square meters, while the addition of a dedicated Digital Corner further strengthened the site's capabilities. Today, the Technology Center showcases the full spectrum of modern woodworking technologies, from machinery and software to digital services.
This development comes to life during the Anniversary Open House. At the Technology Center, SCM will present a broad portfolio of woodworking technologies covering panel cutting, CNC machining, edgebanding, sanding and traditional woodworking. Live demonstrations will allow visitors to experience the machines in operation and see their performance and machining quality first-hand. Product specialists and application engineers will be available for individual consultations, helping visitors identify the most suitable machine configurations for their specific production requirements. The exhibition is complemented by the Digital Corner, where SCM will showcase software solutions and digital services for manufacturing.
